Art and Soul Reflected in the Mirror
Welsh mouth painter Rosie Moriarty-Simmonds OBE was featured in a Christmas Special which appeared in a major national newspaper on 17th December 2021. The theme of the piece ‘Art and Soul’ focussed on artists who produce Christmas cards with a moving, special story behind them.
The piece explained how Rosie, who was born without arms or legs due to Thalidomide, went on to become a commercial artist with the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists, a global community who sell Christmas cards designed by their artists, the proceeds from which helps the artists to live independently.
The article referenced one of Rosie’s original festive images ‘The intricate swirls of the Christmas tree in vibrant colours would stand out on any mantelpiece. Knowing the artist painted it holding a brush in their mouth makes it all the more impressive’. The artist also added that her designs take around 6 weeks to perfect.
The special feature appeared in the Daily Mirror national newspaper, which was read by nearly half a million people and was also posted on their online site.
